Diet is one of the biggest determinants of your health. What you put into your body every day affects everything: your biochemistry, your mood, your brain, muscles, tendons, bones, nerves, kidneys, liver.

I have met this issue from time to time in my heath explorations. Our diet at this point leans heavily towards vegetables so the issues raised may not be pertinent to me and my family.

Still, I find the article a handy and useful reference.

Thanks for the post 🌺

I'm baffled when I see this classification of Alkaline Foods and Acid Foods. In the chart displayed, the acidic fruits are classified as alkaline. They are the most acidic thing on the chart.

If baffled, you need to read the article linked to in the post 👍

From the standpoint of pH of food, it doesn't make sense.

Ok then, you find it paradoxical.

I too find it so. And seem unwilling to delve into the biochemistry that would resolve the paradox. Have not seen the statement challenged, so the issue might be regarded as settled 🧐

There is no paradox in real life. The assertions on that webpage are completely nuts. Lemons, limes and grapefruit are highly acid and acidifying to only place in the body where the pH varies: If you do not believe it check the pH of your urine before and after consuming these fruits and you will see.

The only paradox is this webpage's acknowledgment that the pH of the body is tightly controlled and their BS claim:

" Note that a food’s acid or alkaline forming tendency in the body has nothing to do with the actual pH of the food itself. For example, lemons are very acidic, however the end products they produce after digestion and assimilation are very alkaline so, lemons are alkaline forming in the body."

Park_bear's post verified by Heathline article link in my post.

Many of the applications may work, but the scientific explanation is faulty.

Lemon Juice: Acidic or Alkaline, and Does It Matter?

healthline.com/nutrition/le...

Fruits and vegetables are high in alkaline nutrients such as potassium, calcium and magnesium. These ultimately reduce the amount of acid that the kidneys will need to filter out, and are thus given a negative PRAL score.

Like other fruits, lemon juice produces alkaline byproducts once it has been metabolized. Therefore, it has a negative PRAL score.

This is why some people consider lemon juice to be alkaline despite the fact that it has an acidic pH before it is digested.

I respectfully disagree, Kia. Except sodas, sugar, and grains, the body needs both, acidifying and alkaline foods, especially PwP (grass fed meats, kefir, fish, chocolate, coffee and tea). A well balanced diet is the key to success. Eat everything in MODERATION.

Thank you for your input, Despe.

Agreed.

I think another argument in support of your position is this: we need to be able to enjoy things in life, and whilst I would eat brussel sprouts for every meal for the rest of my life if it was proven to stop PD progression, I'm going to enjoy a wide variety of foods until something like that is proven.
