Shoplifting and parkinsons: If a person has... - Cure Parkinson's
Shoplifting and parkinsons
What PD meds is that person taking? Have there been any recent changes in medication?
Some medications have been known to cause addictions and strange behaviours like shop lifting. MIRAPEX is one. It doesn't happen to everyone, and there are other side effects like excessive weight gain or loss, itchyness, digestive complications........
I gained weight (45 lbs in less than 9 months) even though my appetite had decreased. My good friend lost 20 lbs in six months without changing her diet. We both stopped taking Mirapex but our metabolism appears to have been altered/affected. Sinemet can also cause weight gain but I can't stop taking it. Que sera!
Hi Marywft, if it is psychological it may give the individual a sense of control over their life which they may not otherwise have especially with Parkinson's which is always changing the goal posts. Cheers
Like Birdworld said, if you are on Mirapex it could be a cause. It can cause compulsive and other behaviour problems, i.e. gambling, sexual compulsion and other problems.
My two bits is that it gave the person a rush. They felt alive for a moment. That is a very rare feeling when there is little dopamine in the brain.
