I had my DBS surgery some seven years ago, and if I recall correctly, I waited two weeks to let my brain rest after the surgery.

Sounds a bit long. My battery pack was installed the 5th of May last year and initial programming was a week later

I was told that the 2 weeks was to allow for healing before starting the initial programming. Are they doing the surgery in one step? Years ago they would place the electrodes and then go back and implant the stimulators. Some people found that they improved just from the placement of the electrodes even before the units were turned on. I wish you the best of luck.
