I just started taking Rytary. Any pros and or cons? I had been on carbidopa/levodopa.
Rytary feedback: I just started taking... - Cure Parkinson's
Rytary feedback
Rytary is carbidopa/levodopa.
only in extended release. Worked for me but had some strange side effects. Would wear off at 3 hours. Not a little but totally and complete shut down. Love it when it worked but had to give it up.
Good luck it works for a lot of people.
Thanks so much Bailey.
a life saver (mine!). we absolutely love it. recently had to adjust the time of dosing which is not recommended by the manufacturer but everybody has a different metabolism and my husband has other issues like a terminal heart condition which uses up energy pretty fast. we used to give at 7am/3pm/10pm but have found that it doesn't last (for him) until 3 so we moved it back to 12:45. if the dopa gets too low, he gets nauseated but that happens with all c/l. that worked out well but now he has a dip of c/l around 4 and will get horribly anxious and nauseated and unable to eat dinner. to solve this problem, i give him 1 25/100 regular release at about that time and it tides him over.
he has a problem swallowing now so we open the cap and give it in applesauce. also, before this heart issue when he was exercising more, i noticed that exercise seemed to use up the c/l but that was true of both Rytary and the regular c/l. Docs looked at me strangely when i asked if that could happen (made sense to me) but never got any definitive answer so i guess they don't know.
unfortunate that some can't take it but wonderful for us.
Thanks so much for the info!
Honestly it almost did me in. I persevered for 5 weeks and honestly thought I wasn't going to make it. We kept adjusting the doses thinking that would help. I had high bp migraines dizziness heart palpitations severe pain in my digestive tract and horrible dyskenasia when i tried to go to bed. I ended up at urgent care finally. They wanted me to go to the emergency room. I told them not with Parkinson's. Anyway I had to cancel a trip to my hometown. After 5 weeks of hell I went back to my normal Meds. It took me close to a month to come back. My digestive tract has never been the same and is getting worse by the day. This was spring of 2015. All the doctors could say was I am very sensitive. I hope it works for you. Best of luck.
I was on it for awhile last year, was hoping it would last longer and I could take less meds as a result. It ended up just the opposite, since it required 3 pills per dose as opposed to 1 of the carb/levo and still only lasted 3-4 hours. Extra pills + extra expense + 0 extra benefit = back to carb/levo....once gain hopes dashed.
Thanks Sedona. So far so good but need to check on cost.
