I do yoga on non-running day, which for those who don't know, has quite a bit of muscle building since you're lifting/supporting your own body weight. I like to do the yoga poses which concentrate on strengthening my core muscles. Core muscles can help keep the pelvis level and this can help prevent some running injuries. Since I succumbed to a running injury, I'm a wee bit paranoid about strengthening muscles now. ;-) I also use physio (stretch) bands to work the inner thigh muscles - the abductors - if these are weaker than the hamstrings and quads this can lead to injury caused by the inbalance.

I just started a couple of weeks ago to add weight training exercises on my rest days. I have a DVD with a 20 minute upper body workout with hand weights and a 20 minute lower body workout. It also has a bonus 10 minute abs workout which I haven't done yet. It's fine for now but I'm going to need to switch it up with other DVDs or activities, or else I'm going to get bored with it. I really would like to find something I know I'll stick with long term.

I do body pump a weightlifting class which I love. It helps my knees overall strength and core. Whatever you choose just take it easy as your body adapts to the new exercises.
