So, so far I've only done one run. I started the scheme after deciding to take up running again and discovering that I couldn't physically just go for a run anymore. I only stopped running for 2 years but in that time did no exercise whatsoever, and smoked and drank (and ate!) heavily. So after feeling completely demoralised, I had a quick look online and found this scheme. I even managed to persuade my much older boyfriend to come with me, bonus!
The first run was ok, but a lot harder than I'd imagined. I think I still saw myself as being a naturally fit person, how wrong I was! But we got through it and felt great. Since the run though, I've barely been able to walk. My hips completely seized up (has anybody else experienced this?) and it seems every other muscle in my body is screaming at me. The next run is tonight and I just hope I can cope with it!
I also can't help seeing that 5k as a very, very long way away, but reading other blog posts on here I think, if so many people can do it, why can't I?

Of course you can do it, although it's not always easy, the first few weeks in my experience is a case of your body wondering what on earth you're doing to it, gradually it gets the idea. If you're feeling very sore it might be that you're pushing yourself too hard too fast, best to go slow and steady to begin with, less chance of injury. Best of luck with C25k enjoy the rest of your journey.
Well done Mellisellis. Good luck getting back into running. Just do it all in your time: it's more important getting through the time rather than the distance at this stage.
I too have just started. I used to run everywhere, but due to illness had to quieten down. I got one hell of a shock my first run with this programme last Thursday-I was wobbling all over the place and trying, like you, to go too fast. It was a shock to know just how unfit I am.Today was much better when I slowed the pace to fit. Try and concentrate on the now, not on past activities and how you were. Think of where you are placing your feet (heel toe), and pushing your legs forward. The time, as Janda says, is the important thing, not the distance. I too enjoyed my 2nd run, and am looking forward to Monday and the 3rd. I will be thinking of you Mellisellis
