Out with the old; in with the new, part 2.

Ok, so no more old shoes, (unless I suddenly decide to enter a muddy trail run for which they will do!). The oldies are going to be washed, dried, and used for walks.

The beautiful new black Brooks Adrenaline GT11s (I wanted black so they wouldn't look so grubby after a week's runs) fit well. Ordered off Amazon, a size bigger than normal shoes as always recommended (to save black toenails) I was wondering if they would fit ok, and was pleased to find they did.

The shameful part of this blog is that I hadn't run for FIVE WHOLE DAYS! And when you are non-injured and healthy, that is a heinous crime in my book. However, having lost two of our pet chickens within four days to two different ailments, one just dying within 24 hours, and the other one needing nursing, followed by a visit to the vet, followed by the worst outcome, I wasn't up to it; could not get myself out the door, cnba. One of my sons had health issues too this week, and asked me to accompany him to the GP. All hopefully resolved there, but my mental state this week has not been good.

Despite encouragement from another member on here I was not motivated, but on seeing my lovely new Brooks arrive in the post yesterday, today I found myself in full kit, new shoes strapped on and heading out the door.

Four miles I said to myself; four miles; just four miles... With a hair-do booked for 1pm I had to get myself organised so out I went. Changing my route helped; the sun beating on my head didn't. I'd had nothing to eat and just a few sips of water (late start today, making the most of my last weekend before school goes back in - ok, I'm a lazy git when I'm on holidays!)

Stats for the obsessed: connect.garmin.com/activity...

Nothing spectacular there, and when I pulled up at 4miles exactly, on looking down, found my right shoe lace undone, (no idea how long it had been like that!) so obviously I need to make sure the Brooks are double knotted, not a problem I ever had with the old New Balances. However, feet felt fine, no black nails, no slipping socks. I nipped into the paper shop for oh's wee Independent and then still felt fresh enough for a slow half mile cool down jog home. People don't have do a double take when they see you running with a paper tucked under your arm!

I got home, sweat dripping off me (literally, droplets on the floor, eyes stinging with it), stretches, shower, lunch: veggie sausage baguette, mmmmmm, water, tea, (and more water and tea in the hairdressers). Feel rehydrated now. 134 pounds before the run, 133 immediately after. I know that's down to water loss only but am glad I'm back to 134 in any case; the horrible hormone tablets (for menopause, which I've now given up again) had me up to 139 just three weeks ago, so it's gradually going again. For any other ladies going through this time of life, try sage tablets; it's what I've switched to and they're working wonders so far!!

Keep on keeping on!

I think a new bit of kit gets you through those lulls sometimes :-D

Trouble is I am ending up with quite a lot of kit! I obviously need to run more so I wear some of it out.

Oh well done Carole, it's lovely to hear you're out and about again! New kit is always a motivator, that's why I have so much, yet never enough ;)

You should see the looks you get when you run whilst swinging a loaf of bread! :D

Hi carole, so sorry about your chickens, I lost two cats within two weeks recently and am still finding it a bit hard to get through the day, but I think the running helps to give me some balance. Your shoes look fab and sound comfy. I thought I was weeping this morning for no reason and discovered I was dripping with sweat! I guess that shows I making an effort. Just finished week 9 run 2 (very slowly) and am very pleased with myself. A few months ago a short run would have finished me off and I've lost 4 lbs and changed shape so hurray! Keep up the running, I always feel better afterwards even if I didn't want to go, I bet you feel the same :)
