C25k to 10k

Originally it was my daughter and her boyfriend that started the c25k, they asked me I said I couldn't run a 100 yards anyway they persuaded me. C25k was a struggle at times we started in the winter months February last year and it took us a while to complete, last June we had finished it then we decided to do the local parkrun ( love parkrun) and I did it in 42 minutes but I was happy I'd done one. Roll on on about 8 months so last week broke the 30 minutes and again this week broke it again on a really tough course. Only thing we did wrong when we finished C25K was just run 5ks 3 x a week so I follow the nike app but loads of others about. I'm currently got upto 10ks now . Some runs I find hard and some are great everyone is different I say just go out and enjoy yourself. I'm in my 50's and age is just a number I run with my daughter's boyfriend who on parkrun runs at 22/23 minutes he helps me at the end and pushes me on.Hope I'm OK writing this good luck everyone xxx

wow that is amazing. Well done with progress. I’m interested to know when you say only thing you did wrong was run 3x5k a week what might be wrong with that strategy? I’ve been at it a year now and doing 5K 3 times a week but maybe I need to change or shake things up? Thanks

So basically following the nike app your doing Sprints Hill work outs and Fartleks etc. I think the Sprints work outs have definitely worked for me with my cardiovascular improving. Also because I live in a very hilly area I think this has helped me. Sometimes if I haven't got much time I've devised my own hill Sprints

Running 3x5k isn’t wrong if it works for you. Running is big enough for all of us to find what we enjoy and what fits with our personal goals and lifestyle. You’ve stuck at it for a year so I’d say there’s everything right with that and nothing wrong at all. If you want to change things up, go for it but don’t feel like you have to because someone’s pattern of running is different to yours!

It was definitely wrong for me, but it might not be for someone else. I'm finding I'm moving up and getting quicker following the nike app, but it's each to their own
