🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️April Catch Up Corner week 1: Foolish running?🏃🏃🏃

Happy April and welcome to this week’s Catch Up Corner! Thanks to  Oldfloss for hosting last month (and many many months before!). I have been briefed to provide coffee and snacks. Currently I’ve got reggae reggae jalepeno bread toast for breakfast made in a frying pan because our toaster has broken. I’m not sure how appealing that will be but I’m liking it!

If you haven’t been here before, this is a place to share how your running has been going this week. The good, the bad and the downright foolish!

It’s April Fool’s Day so I had to take the opportunity to talk about foolish runs. Have you had one of those yet? There’s the best kind of foolish. The sort of run where sensible goes out of the window and you just end up doing something a bit ridiculous but somehow brilliant. Some of those have been my absolutely favourite runs. Most of mine involve changing route on impulse and getting totally lost. The photo is from a holiday run where I decided the path I was on was too boring so went straight up a hill looking for wild ponies. No ponies to be seen but beautiful views. It took ages to find my way home but it was totally worth it.

Then there’s the doing something you know is a bit silly thinking “It’ll be fine”… My best example of this is “fuelling” for a run with a cheese and onion pasty ten minutes before running and then nearly being sick in a bush and walking home in shame. Not my finest hour!

Finally, there’s the things where you feel utterly foolish but it’s not really your fault. I once got a bee stuck under my glasses (!!!!!!!) and ended up screaming and flapping my arms around my head trying to get it out. Nobody saw me but my goodness, I felt like a wazzock!

So over to you… any stories of foolish run behaviour to share? You’re in good company here! You can tell us how your running been going this week even if you’ve been decidedly sensible and it’s all ticking along nicely. All runners (even if you’re not currently running) are welcome.

🍏Thank you for hosting Miss U. I have just had some Avo on toast but will join you for coffee ☕️ I honestly have to say that this a stunning photo. What a view! I love Heather and that wild smell almost leaps off the page!

Enjoyed your fun stories except perhaps for the bee! 🐝 I think anyone would react like you did!!

I always feel foolish when I start out the door & have forgotten to charge my phone, bring my hat and gloves in midwinter, and a myriad other things that I usually take or do before running! Once I set off and realised halfway it wasn’t Runday.. it was tipping it down & I could have been warm & dry in bed! Needless to say I slowed down to a walk home.

Well best I stop reminiscing and get on with my day! Thanks for a great post xxx

Oh the joys of getting out of the door! I need to widen my categories of foolishness. I can totally relate…many of my runs take almost as long getting out of the door as actually running 🤣

The heather was gorgeous. It was a really pretty place-we were staying in Dunster which had a lovely castle (and lots of lovely tea shops!). Running opens up a whole loads of exciting places to explore.

Have a great week of running or recovering!

I haven't done anything fun or silly recently - but probably my most foolish run was done in leggings that had a mind of their own. They seemed perfectly fine to walk about in, but as soon as I started running they slipped below the waist and started wending their merry way downwards..... 🫣 Running and yanking was the order of the day!

This past week I was visiting friends in Norway, which was really lovely - but I didn't manage to go for a run. We did cycle out to the Folk Museum, which is an amazing place full of old houses, barns etc that they preserved by taking them apart in situ and putting them back together in the museum grounds. This includes a 'stave church' (photo attached).

Home yesterday so I went out this morning for the 1st run of week 7. It was lovely!

I’d totally forgotten about kit fails as a category! I’ve had leggings do that and it’s so annoying. Did they get retired as run leggings after that? It sounds like a good excuse for some out shopping…one of the joys of being a runner!!

Norway is a beautiful country! We went years ago and would love to go back. Sometimes holiday runs don’t quite fit. Ticking off that first run of week 7 must have felt satisfying!

Have a great week!

I've still got those leggings. They are OK as long as there is no running involved. 😀

I didn't manage to post the photo - something up with either the website or me.... Getting into week 7 is brilliant - building up those continuous runs now!!!

Happy April, foolish runs? My first 10k when I'd said I wanted to go as far as the pier not knowing if I'd get that far and being disappointed that when I got there it was only 2.5k so I kept going, thinking if I got to 5k and turned round I'd have to go 5k back again, no water not even a mint in my pocket, it took 1hr 46 minutes but every step was running, just got slower and slower......Many foolish runs later I never go out without at least water, mints, and other things for further distances.

Run happy or rest well all .

I know you have coffee but Oldfloss used to make me tea 😁 xx

I can absolutely provide tea as well! All tastes catered for here!!

That sounds like such a tough run…you did amazingly to get to the end. We learn so much from that sort of run..,and I usually promptly forget it! You sound like you’ve got your collection of run essentials nailed now and that’s a big win.

Really to hear from you! How was the Bath trip?

Bath was amazing, we got there a bit later than planned, booked into the hotel then walked straight to the spa, it was perfect as usual and my daughter loved it, we agreed if I make it to 100 she'll take me there and lower me into the water on the chair they have but did point out that she'd be 82, she's put a reminder in her phone 🤣, We were starving when we left so got takeaway and ate in our room.

I woke at 2am and there she was waiting for me to wait up and we chatted about the night before her daughter was born,

We met her daughter and boyfriend at a vegan cafe for lunch, tea and cake then headed home, they loved the spa too and had a few days in Bath so saw all the sights.

A lovely time had by all thanks 😁.

We are all moving away so there will be less visits, maybe when we are visiting family here we might go and have a night there .

Thanks for the tea, I've sprung a cold and at the sneezing thirsty stage so very a welcome xx
