I don't think I was ready for that one

I must admit, I don't think I was ready for that run just yet, let me give you some background.

I last ran on Christmas Eve, week 6 run 3, 25 minutes of jogging bliss, I loved every step of it BUT as the day went on I started to feel sniffly and bunged up.

Christmas Day, I was worse and I remained that way right up until 2 days ago, I did contemplate starting week 7 yesterday but I knew I wasn't ready and with the best will in the world I knew I wouldn't hit 25 minutes.

So, what was different today? It's a back to work day and I was feeling better than yesterday.

So, what happened? I set off ok, speed set at the usual and a 1% incline as usual, about 8 minutes in I wouldn't say I was struggling to breathe, I knew I was still bunged up and my nose was running, not jogging!

Between 8 minutes and halfway I really questioned whether I should just stop the run and retry it tomorrow or Thursday but I did push on.

I completed the run, no dizziness or real shortness of breath, HR was about normal (in line with W6R3 anyway) from what I could remember.

Am I glad I pushed on? Yes, I am, I really wanted to get back into the program and complete it at the faster pace but, as per the title, in retrospect, I really don't think I was ready to run 25 minutes this morning.

I'll see how I feel Thursday for run 2 of week 7 and decide from there, I will be in the gym tomorrow and probably another PT session on Friday if the trainer can fit me in.

Happy New Year everyone and happy running.

🥳Happy new year to you too… well done on pushing through.. I sometimes think my brain is more sluggish than my legs 🤣 after an episode like yours. It’s good to remind ourselves that we can do it!! All your cross training stands you in good stead. Enjoy that next run!! 🏃‍♂️

When I ran the 25 minutes on Christmas Eve it was a great run, today was bad, runny nose, phlegm, etc, like I said, I don't think I was ready to do it but I'm glad I did, I needed it.
