5k - Parkrun

So, 3 months ago I couldn't run for a bus. I completed the C25K programme, and on Saturday did my first parkrun. It felt great, I ran non-stop in a time of 34.11mins, I placed 73rd out of 103 runners, 24th woman home from 44 women and I placed 8th in my age category. I was so chuffed with myself, I was on a high all weekend long. I can't wait to do another one, I've even moved an appointment I had on a Saturday, so that I can do my parkrun.

I guess the reason I'm posting this is to encourage anyone who is struggling, with whichever part of C25K. I found when it went from 8mins running to 20mins running, really hard work and thought I would never get past that. I persevered and now run 3 times a week, 35mins or so each time. I wanted to be able to run the parkrun non-stop, before I tried it rather than walking part of it, but I did it.

So, if anyone is struggling out there ..... stick with it, you will get there and get to that parkrun 5k. I will now every week, incorporate my parkrun as one of my weekly runs - it was such a sense of achievement and so nice doing it with lots of like minded people (even though I had my headphones in). The C25K was such a good training programme, I can't recommend it enough. I have no plans to do a marathon - maybe a 10k in the future, but for now I am more than happy doing a weekly parkrun.

That is brilliant!! I did my first parkrun on Saturday also, and like you was buzzing all weekend. There is just something about getting yourself there, and as you say being among so many like minded people and actually completing the course which is so fulfilling. I was 34:28 and really pleased as mine was in torrential rain hahahaha. But that didn't detract from it...quite the opposite. I'm already looking forward to the next one...Well done!!

Parkrun sort of does that to us doesn't it? Changes our Saturday mornings

You've certainly encouraged me to have a go at a parkrun. It sounds like a real life enhancing experience. There's a nice flat course locally which would suit a week 7 runner like me. I might have a go this weekend. :)
