Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD)

Morning all,

Four years ago I had PAD in my right leg. As the surgeon found crystalline deposits when attempting to fit a stent it was not possible to treat it that way and I had a bypass operation instead. Since then I have not felt a single pain in that leg

But now I am having the same problem in my left leg and have had to cancel events I had entered this summer. I have read that the best self-help treatment is regular walks and rests which I have been doing every day for a month at least with no discernable improvement.

As I am currently receiving treatment for prostate cancer I cannot consider another operation on my leg until the new year and am wondering how best to treat this problem in the meantime.

If anyone can offer advice I would be most grateful

Thanks

That sounds incredibly frustrating for you. Sending sympathies and hope it’s something you’re able to fix.

We’re not medical professionals here and this sounds like it needs input from somebody in real life with proper training. Wishing you all the best with recovery ❤️

Many thanks MU. I have contacted the surgeon who performed the previous op but he advised me to wait until my cancer treatment is finished. At the moment I am having hormone therapy but will be having 4 weeks of radiotherapy in October or thereabouts.

🍏It’s SO frustrating when we try the self help things and they don’t seem to be working! However as you are undergoing treatment for cancer that is your best option for the moment .. continue with your walking & resting … both will help to get you through this rough patch & may even be the reason you are coping! Having had chemo myself I know how debilitating it can be. chat to your medical team about adding in a gentle strength & flex routine …

All the best and let us know how you get on!!

Thanks Annieapple. I will be having 4 weeks of radiotherapy in October. I understand the worst of the side effects will be during the second fortnight of that plus the following 2 weeks. So I have to self help until at least December. I am so frustrated!!

🍏 I can understand that especially as you have had to cancel planned events.. the important thing is to find something else you CAN do and enjoy until you can get back to it! You may need to think out the box a little … your health is paramount, but so is your mental wellbeing… channel that frustration into discovery .. & some peace of mind..
