Week 4 and pop!

Hi peeps.

Ex graduate here and restarting for the umpteenth time just to get my mojo back through the subtle encouragement of Laura.

Each time the knees give me trouble and cause to stop. Last time the physio said it was medial meniscus tear/bursitis on my right knee and it's looking like the same issue.

On Monday (Week 4 Run 1) I managed to finish but the pain is getting worse so I've reluctantly decided to pause before today's run and allow healing.

Last time the physio said I had to take a good break and advised that I do some cycling (which I do love) as part of the rehab. Maybe stick to just cycling but running is such an easy thing to get out and do and it does become enjoyable at some stage!

Wondering if there is a solution to this issue given age 60.

Oh no! So sorry this keeps happening to you. Have you seen a physio recently? I would go back and ask them for advice about how you can keep running given the knee issues you’ve got-they’re in the best place to advise you. Some physios are more knowledgeable about runners than others so it might be worth trying to see one with expertise in that area. I felt like an absolute fraud seeing a sports physio for my knee pain since I’m just a someone who runs for fun but I was reassured that a lot of their clients are the same. I paid privately to be seen more quickly but it was worth it. At least you’ll know whether you’ll be able to continue to run (for example by building up your strength) or whether you’re better finding alternatives. You’re doing exactly the right thing by stopping running while you’ve got pain.

Sending buckets of sympathy your way and really hope you can find a solution.

🍏Such a hard issue to face up to when we have been medically advised to put our runs on the back burner for a while. I feel for you as will so many others here waiting it out on the injury couch. You do need to confirm whether it’s wise to continue or not with your GP or physio.

I had an issue last year where I thought I would never run again.. my GP was adamant that I take a break but she encouraged me no end by emphasising “You WILL run again, if you are patient now!! “
