Wow, wow, wow, this week has been a real game changer with three 25 minute runs! There was nowhere to hide but guess what! I did it! And although my thighs are aching a bit... I feel awesome!!! Must be the explosion of endorphins in my body ππ₯°π I hope everyone doing this challenge experiences similar feelings of achievement! Well done to all of us! π This week I met a neighbour who does the local park run on Saturdays so I will now find a friendly face when I eventually join them (after this challenge).
I have calculated that, for when I am in week 9, to cover 5k, I need to run 21.7 laps of my field in 30 mins which is 81 seconds per lap, a bit faster than I am doing now (approximately 90 seconds per lap). I was thinking in the next couple of weeks I will aim for two sloooow runs and one a bit faster and see if I can keep that pace ππ»ββοΈππ»ββοΈππ»ββοΈ
In the photo is my field β€οΈ, my π and me breathing after my run earlier today. My best wishes to everyone! Good luck next week ππΌππΌππΌ

Huge well done to you.... you are doing wonderfully... Try not to focus on the 5K too much...although, we do know many folk would love to reach that distance by nine weeks, but very few of us manage to
The runs are getting longer and they are absolutely perfect for just relaxing into and enjoying every step. You have got a super location to run in and clearly you are having an incredibly enjoyable time running there....
Makes sure you are upping some of the strength and stamina work now too, maybe... loads of ideas for that on the S and F forum... Those legs and the rest of your running body need to be kept in tip top shape!
Thank you, Oldfloss , I have joined the S&F community now. I didn't know this existed so thank you! I will spend some time getting familiar with it but it looks good! I read that strength exercise was important for women my age and older to complement any cardio work, but I didn't know how/where to start with that! So I will definetly look into this πWith regards to the 5k it would be terrible if I injured myself trying to get there for the sake of a few minutes! so perhaps as you say get this strength thing going on first and have the 5k goal as a "next step" consolidation goal instead. Good call! ππΌ
Please forget about trying to push for 5k in week 9 though. Based on the figures you give, you'd have to run 10% faster, consistently, to hit 5k. That's more than just a bit.
There's no requirement to reach 5k in order to complete the programme. Plus, you potentially have decades of running ahead of you, so there's no rush, especially since it's longer, slower running that will give you the aerobic base to start going faster, if that's what you choose to do.
Thank you, Cmoi , you are not the first to point this out and for what I gather is a bit of a risky and pointless effort at this point in time π I will be wise! Will keep it nice and slow and concentrate on keeping a steady pace and getting the 3 runs done each week which it is a lot when you compare it with what I was doing a few weeks ago ππΌ thank you for your advice ππ»ββοΈππ»ββοΈππ»ββοΈ
No problem! I used the C25K podcasts - the app's not available outside the UK - and chose not to measure distance or pace until after I'd completed the programme. Glad I did as I'd have stressed way too much about what I (wasn't) achieving!
You're 15 years younger than me, so hopefully you'll have many, many years of running to come.
And congratulations too on managing to run round and round your field. That takes some commitment, it'd bore me out of my mind and I'd have given up long ago!
