Hello all

Would like bit of advice on my plan to run the C5K

I broke my leg in Dec 21 and wore brace for 8 weeks.

I have had some physio but now finished.

I'd like to start the C5K but slightly concern that i may get pain in my leg/knee.

Has anyone on here done the same, and managed to completed the C5K?

I'm 68 but quite health and not over weight, so no added pressure on my injury

Any advice would be grateful

Eve

Welcome, and congratulations on coming to the start line.

Did you mention this to the physio? They are in a much better place to give you specific advice, and have an understanding of your recovery that we cannot.

Running is, in general, great for the bones and muscles… but it’s also pretty good at highlighting any weaknesses and tells us so with pain!

Assuming your healing is complete, and you’ve done the physio, there’s nothing to differentiate you from any other new starter, or indeed any of us more established runners… we should all be doing strengthening work too. You may have some residual weaknesses is the leg you broke, which would be helped along by continuing the physio you already have.

If in doubt, check with the physio and/or your GP. In general though a quite healthy 68 year old can do this.

Thank you for your reply. I guess i'm little scared as i don't want to go backwards after what i've been through. I'm trying to get one more appointment with my physic, so i'll ask as many question i can think of 😀

Sounds like a plan !I would probably check it out with your physio first though, but if completely healed then no reason why not !

Do have a thorough read through the program guide !

Enjoy the program!

"Broke my leg" covers a multitude of sins! Checking with a physio who has access to your medical records seems like a prudent measure if running isn't something that came up before.

Once you get going my thoughts would be to be particularly careful to choose kinder surfaces if you can (ie not roads and pavements every time) and avoiding heel first contact with the ground.

As the others say... you need the go- ahead from the folk that know. The doctors and the Physio... When you are absolutely sure that there will be no problem, then we can all move froward together with some great advice en route:)

Thank you. I think whats worrying me, sometimes, going up & down stairs, can bring little pain to my knee. I guess like everything, won't know until i try right ?👍👍
