Week 6

Can’t quite believe it but I am now on Week 6. This is the longest I’ve ever managed to do on a running programme. I completed Run 1 and I’m happy with how I did. I found it bizarre that I found this a bit more difficult than running 20 minutes straight at the end of week 5. Don’t know why that is! Maybe it’s the ‘stop start’ element.

Bit of a weird one but does anyone get a bit bored during some of the longer running stretches? I don’t run outside - this is because I live in a rural area with fast roads and no pavements. I use a treadmill at the gym. I tend to watch YouTube videos to pass the time and Sanjeev cuts in with his words of wisdom. I don’t know why I find it boring. It’s weird. I suppose that’s better than feeling out of breath or in pain!

Read around the c25k board and you’ll quickly find lots of people find week 6 run 1 tricky after the 20 minute run-you’re in very good company!

Personally, I find running on a treadmill the most tedious thing ever and I can’t manage more than ten minutes. Maybe a podcast or music could help?

I totally sympathise with the fast country lanes. I’m rural too and there are lots I definitely wouldn’t risk running on. During lockdown I found a lot of footpaths, bridleways and quiet lanes which are now where I do the majority of my running. I would have considered driving to safe outdoor spots to run if that wasn’t an option.

Well done for getting so far through the program. Getting bored is a good sign that you’re running at a very comfortable, relaxed pace rather than having to struggle to the end. That’s a great problem to have! Good luck with finding some good places to run.

It's surely the treadmill... you are doing so well to carry on:)Are there no footpaths in your area where you are able to get off road across the fields. Or, playing fields or, is there a chance that you could drive to your nearest open area, park or nature area?

The difference between in and out is huge, and not just because out is not boring:) The way we run and the way that running evolves is so different too.

I do use my TM after injury or in really icy weather, and I too have lanes around me which do carry some fast drivers, but mostly I manage to get off road.

Well done for reaching week 6. I was exactly the same and posted this week about wk6r1 being way more difficult than wk5r3. I have just completed run 2 of week 6 so I’m actually looking forward to not stopping as I find it annoys me but I’ve stuck with it rigidly.

So I have restarted Week 6 after a three week break, sponsored by COVID 😔 I didn’t want to pick up where I left off, as I felt that going straight back into Run 2 would be too much. I did the first run which is W5, R5, W3, R8, W3, R5. I felt it was difficult because my body was in a wee bit of shock, but I managed. I kept it slow and my body seemed to remember how to do it.

Just here to tell anyone who has lost progress through COVID that you will get it back. Trust your body. Your mind is probably the bigger barrier.
