Long long road to recovery

Just tried my first C25k since finishing chemotherapy 4 weeks ago- couldn’t even finish W1R1 😡

I know the medics said recovery would be slow but………

Trouble is, I have surgery in 4 weeks followed by more chemo- suspect you may not hear much from me for quite some time

Just celebrate what you can do.

Chemo knocked me back but I got through C25k again, in time.

It just requires patience and listening to your body.

You will get the rewards in the long term.

We recommend that you should be able to walk briskly for 30 minutes before attempting to run C25k, so hitting that target first will build your fitness.

Take care.

Hope the surgery and chemo go well. Chemo has knocked the stuffing out of everyone I know who has had it… so not completing W1R1 isn’t surprising to me. What you did though is got out and did something… and any something will make you fitter and stronger than if you didn’t. We all own our own journey, it doesn’t have to be 27 runs from start to finish, so there’s nothing wrong with chipping away at it. As IannofaTruffe suggests, brisk walking may be they key to this. Active 10 is good and has you walking 30 minutes a day at brisk pace… but you can start with less, and you can also do 3x10 minute walks to add up to 30. This has proven health benefits similar to running, and is much more effective (and less time consuming) than 10k steps.

Good luck with everything… you will complete your running goals in time.
