Week 8 Run 2 - Down the hill.

Put my calves through their paces today with a little down hill action. The run felt ok, although an earlier start meant a warmer and sunnier time. Started to lose momentum at the 14 minutes mark. And Laura pushing me on did nothing for my enjoyment. Only 14 minutes?? But I pushed through, which I now believe is where the secret lies. When your head says “nope, that’ll do.” You just have to keep going. I set little tasks today. Just to the end of this road, or let’s get to the seafront. And by about 17 minutes, I got a second wind. Pushed my head up and shoulders back and the next time Laura interjected, I had 5 minutes to go. I don’t know if it will ever get “easier” but it won’t ever be as hard as it was. Only 4 runs left of this program.

You need to change the “t” in your username to a “w”.

Nice work, David!

Thanks Ian. I don’t feel like a runner quite yet, but I guess that’s the same mentally of still feeling like a smoker! (Even though I quit 10+ years ago!) I’m getting closer though, at the moment I’m “not a runner but I regularly run!”

The challenge is a buzz beating that inner voice that says, what are you doing, by pushing on. The finish is in sight. It would spur on to get to the sea front, unfortunately as a city lass it’s not as scenic.

Good luck. You’re really close and learning to battle those gremlins. They’re always there hanging around but you did the perfect thing and focused on small targets and successes to get you through the run. I had a really bad case of the “stop now” gremlins in my 10k race recently in Brighton at km 7/8 but no way was I letting them win. I ended up with a PB,
