First 10K for over 30 years

I ran my first 10K since giving up running in my late 20s on Thursday. Happily this coincided with my granddaughter’s first birthday! I’d run 8k several times at home in France, and done an 8k circuit here a couple of times over the last week, finding it harder going due to the hillier terrain. I set off on the same 8k circuit, and at 6.5k decided that, despite the hills, this was the day to tag on a bit extra and do 10! No real drama, I felt good and even pushed it in the last kilometre to hear Strava tell me that I completed the 10 in under an hour! Pleased with myself. Running has now become a part of my life again and I thoroughly enjoy it - I’ve lost weight and my blood pressure has come down. I’m 62 in 6 weeks time and still think there’s room to improve - I’m looking forward to doing more runs with my son here after our return to the U.K. in October. I’ll stop rambling… just another example of the positives of completing C25K! Enjoy your running!

Well done, it is a great achievement.

Be careful about just tacking an extra few kilometres randomly onto your runs. It is recommended that you do not increase your weekly training load by more than 10% of your weekly total, to avoid doing too much too soon.

Thank you for your feedback. I’d run quite a few “8.somethings” at home and I just felt really relaxed at the two thirds point. I’ll take heed of your 10% rule in future, but don’t really intend going much beyond the 10K mark…. Though you never know! Have a good one!
