Week 2 of C25K, by an trained runner

I've been running a couple of years now. It started after I read The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, and I decided I don't want to end like my mom who can barily walk 100m, or my dad who smoked half a bag of tobacco each day.

When my wife told me about the Danish crown prince, who'd invite every Dane to run together with him when he'd turn 50, I accepted my wife's challenge. I guess she didn't know I went for the 10K in stead of the 1M.

I eventually ran a half marathon in 2019, but somehow my right leg wasn't pleased. Since summer 2020, I got pain when running, just around the knee. I took a long break, then started running 2 kilometres, then 2.5, then 3, then 4, 5, 6 and ... when I reached 10, the pain returned. Bummer!

So now I am doing Lauras C25K programme. I do love potato chips on the couch, it's not that, but I don't feel like I'm a typical C25K aspirant. But I hope this C25K programme stops the pain. Because not running just sucks!

Good luck with it. I would consider seeing a physio just to see if there's any obvious reason for the recurring knee pain...

Please do read the guide to the programme to get all the benefits with no drawbacks

Welcome to the forum.

I totally agree with GoGo_JoJo that you have a physiological issue that needs addressing, and while C25K will be a gentle reintroduction, it will not correct imbalance or damage.

I would definitely get the opinion of a physio before you go any further.

Hi IannodaTruffe and GoGo_JoJo

Thanks for replying. I definitely will see a physio, but not before I got my second vaccine against Covid-19. Here in Denmark, things aren't going that fast.

But I totally agree that IF there is some imbalance or damage, a C25K will not help.

At this moment, I am in week 2 of my C25K, and am not experiencing any pain. That is definitely an improvement in comparison to the first retry after a 45 days break, where I felt a slight pain right after the restart. I also have done some exercises with my joints and muscles during the second break.

Hi again.

I am now at week 5 of my C25K. After first run, suddenly the pain returned. I consulted my online doctor, and showed her where the pain starts.

She said: "This is nothing about an injury, but all about your running techniques. I do have those inlays from Arch, which I got after I had pain in my left leg, about one year and a half ago. These inlays got rid of the pain immediately. But graduately I began having pain in my right leg.

The doctor said: we normally do not suggest to have an inlay in only one shoe, but in this case, I'd suggest to do that either way.

So I am going to run, starting 9h15 local Danish time, for my C25K, Week 5, Run 2, with ONE inlay. I am very curious.

I am intended to finish my C25K, but if the pain goes away with one inlay, I am intended to get a faster programme than the usual B210K, because I'd like to get back to my 20K.
