Did anyone else ever really struggle with week 5 run 3 (the first nonstop run)?

I've tried running it twice and I just can't get through it without a walking break. I have moved on to week 6 run 1 and found it reasonably manageable but I'm now worried about the next nonstop runs 😑

Edit: I did it on a treadmill, slowed myself right down and did it with ease, I think I was being a bit of a negative Nellie to myself

Can you speak aloud, clear, ungasping sentences as you run?.........if not, you are going too fast.

Thanks for the advice I think going to try and run it on a treadmill to keep my speed down rather than my usual hilly route

Yes!!! Took me about 4 attempts! Honestly was running too fast, have slowed down and finally did it. It's sometimes a mental challenge more than anything too. I was convinced I couldn't do it so I think I kept setting myself up for a fail. In the end I kept telling myself, just 1 more minute, over and over, lol 😆

Slow your pace right down. Slow and slower still is how to tackle this first long run. Find a slow pace where you know you can run faster but DON’T! Running slower builds endurance.

W5R3 is a great run and you will have a real sense of achievement when it’s finished. You need to complete this run before progressing to week 6 as it is important preparation for the nonstop runs that lie ahead.

Have another go - embrace your inner snail 🐌 as the key to success. 😉

Lots of people struggle with this run, but also always it's down to mental struggles with it and also going out too quickly , i.e. getting the pacing right.

You need to have completed each run before moving on to the next. Each run builds on the previous one.

You can't skip one just because you think it's too hard. If you do that you'll come a cropper on subsequent much harder runs.

If you've done W6R1, you can do W5R3. Just remember to keep the speed down.

To echo what others have said Jobellc25k , you can complete W5R3! However you really must complete it before you move on, otherwise things will almost certainly come off the rails. Take it slowly, well-rested and properly hydrated, and believe you can do it. Mentally dividing it into five minute blocks worked for me - you already know you can run for five minutes, so you just go ahead and do it four times.

I struggled too. I was surprised to see that there’s a big jump from 8 mins to 20 . I managed to do it by slowing down a little bit. After the 10 min mark, something changed with my breathing and I found that I could breathe easier and that helped me to complete 20 mins. Best of luck .

Slow slow slow. And just keep trying it until you get it - they’re all preparation runs. Make sure you do that before you move on.You can do it!

If it’s hilly oh boy that will be making it harder. You could find the flattest block near you and just circle it for 20 minutes? It’s all about the duration but hills will definitely be making it harder for you.
