Couldn't pull through

I am on week 7, today I was meant to go for the last run and...I couldn't manage!

Not as much physically, more mentally.

I must say that I woke up not feeling 100% ok, a bit tired, little stomach ache. Also it was really windy so I struggled to breath in certain parts of the run - eventually I just couldn't do it and I stopped after 16mins.

Better than nothing and as I didn't feel too well I think it's ok - I am wondering though if you have any tips for those moments when your head is screaming "nahhh you gotta stop here mate!"

Well done on giving it a go.

Everything going on in our lives can impact on our performance as a runner. Restedness, hydration and nutrition are at the top of my list of variables that need to be optimised to enable enjoyable running.

This post expands on the theme. healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

I nearly stopped today week 7 last run, it was a struggle and I wonder if I should have had two rest days in between runs, what i actually told myself was this is toxin ten/gremlins/nothing is actually sore/I’m too fat/then just slow down and do the same speed i walk at, i would rather be running than walking at the same speed,And i have to get home somehow and then after a minute or two I got through it, believe in yourself and the programme and give it another go in a couple of days, good luck

That's why exercising outside is useful - that thought that you'd have to walk back anyway so you might as well keep running! Well done on W7R3. I completed mine today too, and it feels like progress is being made!

Very true! Well done making progress! I did wonder today .. if I went back and done run 1 week 1 again how it would feel.. that would really drive home how far we have came along this journey I think!

Week 7 is ‘interesting’ enough anyway and if you aren’t feeling good then it’s likely you maybe needed a little more rest.

I’ve had many moments of my brain telling me I can’t... each person will have their own ways of smashing through those thoughts - for me this week it was the promise of cake.

If the gremlins come back think of something that takes your mind off it, some of the things I think about are..

1) What was the best day of my life, relive the memory of who was there what did we do

2) what will my first order be in the bar when pubs open

3) what will I write for my weekly posts on here

4) what would I tell myself on week 1 day 1 if I could go back

5) places I’d like to visit after lockdown

Take some time to rest, you’ll smash it the next time! ☺️

During W7R1 & 2 I gave myself a talking to , telling me that everyone says the body is ready for this, its the mind that says not. So i slowed down and slowed down and found that I could do it, even increasing speed for the last minute. But tomorrow is my test day when i do W7R3

Hi AndruDjango , I did once shout "Eff off gremlins!" (only it wasn't the bowdlerized version) which worked nicely. Ahem.

During C25K I used to divide runs into smaller chunks of time and tell myself I could perfectly well run for another x minutes. I still do it now, just with bigger chunks!

Running in high winds takes so much more effort, it's taken me a long time to accept that I won't do "as well " in these conditions. Well done for having a go, and that 16 minute run will still improve your fitness.
