Over the moon, jus completed run 3 week 4,

Must admit I’m overweight & suffered with back & sciatica issues. I was getting to the point I couldn’t even walk far.

I purchased a treadmill as was afraid if I walked outside & got to a point, I couldn’t get back.

It took 4 months of walking slowly increasing distance then pace to even start the plan. I’ve had to duplicate a number of weeks but can’t believe the big jump to week 4 & now I’ve done it.

Pain is still there in the background but slow & steady is getting me there.

In hindsight & advice on here I do think one of my issues was speed. I really struggled with week three until I slowed the machine down, but one thing I feel with the treadmill does, is it forces me to go on unless I specifically change the settings & must admit I’m now wondering how I’d set my pace outside without the machine which must be more interesting, as I am getting bored of the same spot on the wallpaper lol.

Thanks for all the great advice & support given, reading other people’s posts really does give encouragement

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress.

Say this sentence out loud to yourself "Am I going slow enough to enable me to speak this sentence in one out breath?" If you cannot, you are going too fast.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

I think people who run on treadmills have great determination, I couldn’t run without all the distractions provided outside, I set myself to go super slow to make sure I complete the runs and at the end of the last run i go a bit faster for 60 seconds if I feel up to it, I am just going into week 6, good luck with your running
