2 week layoff

Hi all

First run this morning after a 2 week layoff due to a calf strain. Felt fine but was aware of a certain vague tenderness in the strain area

2 questions:

a)should I do any specific warm up/down other than the 5 minute brisk walk

b) should I wear any support on it

many thanks as always

I'm just back after straining my knee. I've been doing lots of dynamic stretching before and after running but also during the day, eg while waiting for the kettle to boil, just to try and keep everything loose. Good luck!

Well done.

With the colder weather it may be worth doing some extra dynamic warm up pre run.

If you have a calf strain then doing post run static calf stretching will help.

A support may help short term but long term you need to build the supporting musculature. Running alone will not do that significantly.

A dynamic warm up might help.

The static stretches afterwards definitely do help. I've even found myself needing to do a quick calf stretch against a wall during my cool down walk.
