What do you think is the slowest 5k on the forum lol?
Sweaty red faced exercise has never been my thing all my life, but I started c25k in July after feeling I had become SO sedentary in lockdown, put on a few pounds and where was it all going to end... I didn’t think I would manage week 1,
So I did surprise myself and got all the way through to graduation, but I could only run about 3k in 30 minutes.
So here I am 4.5 months from starting, 3 runs a week ( apart from once) and I am proud to say I was in continuous movement for....drumroll...5k yesterday! I’m not claiming it as an official stage B of graduation as I walked for 2 minutes in the middle, bit it feels like a milestone. It took me.... 48 minutes!
So as you can see, I haven’t got any faster. However there is absolutely no way I could have run another 2k at my graduation so something is improving somewhere, and I thought some of you might enjoy sharing.
PS.. did I lose those 3extra pounds? No, they seem to be my ‘ new normal’. I guess at least I didn’t put more on.....

I am slow too and sometimes it bothers me, but not often. In the time that I have been running my distance has improved and I know that I can just put on my gear and run/shuffle/jog for as long as I want. I have got a bit faster, but am regularly overtaken!
Try not to compare yourself to others as 'comparison is the thief of joy' as they say. You are out there, no longer sedentary and the weight is off! What's not to like
Hi, yes I totally agree, you sound like my kind of runner! ... I have given up comparing in any sense that causes me anxiety , .. I was just very happy to hit my own personal 5k! I did use to worry a lot in the early weeks. It’s that lifelong baggage you carry that you are rubbish at sport. It takes some effort to absorb that :
I feel like PE teachers of the past have a lot to answer for. It takes a while to relearn that you don't have to be a top notch athlete to enjoy and benefit from exercise
Sounds great to me! Despite running for a year now having started cto5k this time last year, I've never run 5k in less than about 37 minutes (I think that was my fastest) and usually it takes me around 39 mins. I don't care, everyone is different. I can run for a very long time now, but it's always pretty slow!
Just carry on doing what you're doing, it's just brilliant.
Believe me, I can be pretty slow! Good luck, no point comparing stats, we're all different. Running is running! Running has kept me sane while working from home in the same four walls!
I am one of the slower runners too. Just done my 8th consolidation run this morning. 5k in 36.30 mins. I don’t think I will ever achieve 5k in 30 mins but it doesn’t matter. Before I graduated I got caught up in times and pace and got a few injuries into the bargain! A lot wiser now.
My slow runs are happier more enjoyable runs minus the injuries.
I agree with Roxdog, everyone is different.
It is amazing that you have managed to run 5k👏👏. Just keep running and you will get stronger and your stamina will improve at the same time.
I have now put some weight on again and trying to lose, and it’s a while since I ran 5 k., but my fastest was just over 45 mins. I had a couple of lack of motivation/ mild injury/ can’t face the cold breaks. But I really try to run 3 times a week, you guessed it, still about 3k! Please don’t let that put you off. You will be racing ahead of my plodding very soon. Especially with all the summer months to come.
