Did another consolidation run today.Used one of the week 9 runs again but ran for 35 mins plus warm up and cool down walks. Just about made 5k! Have downloaded the Nike app but do n’t quite have the confidence to try it yet !
Still using c25k: Did another consolidation run... - Couch to 5K
Still using c25k
Well done! I did my first consolidation run this week and I tried the Nike app. I listened to the first 5 mins or so of the guided runs before I headed out. I tried the don’t wanna run run one. I wasn’t sure if I’d like it or not as he speaks for most of the way and I like listening to my music, but it was good, I found that because I was listening to him it took my mind off that first 10 mins of fighting any negative thoughts and I was running without thinking about running if you get what I mean! There are runs on there without a guided coach. I did 5k for the first time but that did include my warm up walk 😊
I managed 5k on consolidation runs finally and best time 36 minutes I think. Then had a break if 10 days as under the weather. So far only got back to about 3.5k but decided need to build up slowly. Also finding using podcasts/drama helps me to stop stressing about the distance and focusing on running which I do enjoy most of the time.
Congratulations on your graduation! It is very important at this point not to overreach yourself and cause an injury that will set you back, so your "steady ahead, keep with week 9" approach is actually a very sensible one.
When you're ready, you might like to look at the "Bridge to 10K" group on here for ideas. Meanwhile, I'd say don't be in too much of a hurry to run further - maybe make your goal to be stronger at 5K first? Good luck!
Well done on graduating and your consolidation runs so far. I graduated a couple of months ago and used the week 9 podcasts for about 3 weeks of consolidation, trying different coaches voices, different music/podcasts/books and routes to see what worked for me. Then I started trying the c25k+ podcasts and the nrc app (which has some really interesting runs and isn’t scary but I personally find all the talking too annoying.)
I basically just enjoyed mixing things up in the 30 minute runs to see what did and didn’t work for me, including one run with no tech, no music etc, which I never thought I’d do! It was actually quite liberating!
After a couple of months consolidating with 30-35 min runs, I’d worked out that I like running the same route (with a few little variations) and listening to a podcast and I felt ready to start JuJu’s magic plan to work towards running 10k/60 min.
Good luck with finding what works best for you and I recommend the bridge to 10k forum for tips and ideas and encouragement for where to take things after consolidation.
Happy running 😃
Good for you! 👏👏👏
There's nothing to fear from the Nike running club app. Yes, Coach Bennett does talk quite a lot, and yes he's very American, but he has a wealth of knowledge and good advice. I found the app useful in stopping bad habits creeping in once I'd been running independently for a couple of months. Give it a go - what's the worst that can happen?
Good luck!
