W4R2 Hardest so far!

Hello all.

I had a bit of a false start with c25k about three months back, when I was totally unable to do Day 1. Since I came back 4 weeks ago I've been doing my 3 runs a week and actually enjoying it.

It's always been hard but never felt impossible but somehow today felt nearly impossible I was feeling good before I went out, I slept well, ate normally etc. but the only way I managed to drag myself through today was the constant reminders that I've done the same run twice before this week.

It's disheartening because I've really been enjoying the runs but it was so hard today that I didnt. And then next week is the big week 5, which I've been equally terrified and excited by!

I felt ready to give up in Wk2, which was really hard for me. Running was hard and I was getting no pleasure out of it. I kept pushing and by Wk4, I felt better about everything - I feel so much fitter. I am now in Wk7. I think a big part of it is a mental battle. Give yourself some credit that you've come back to this and see if you can keep pushing. It will get better.

You don't say why it was hard........ breathless, tired, aching?????

Can you speak aloud, clear, ungasping sentences as you run?.........if not, you are going too fast.

Everything going on in our lives can impact on our performance as a runner. Restedness, hydration and nutrition are at the top of my list of variables that need to be optimised to enable enjoyable running.

Heavy legs can be symptomatic of poor hydration. As a runner you need to drink a minimum of 2.5 -3 litres of fluid each and every day, running or not, as mentioned in the guide.

I don't know if this is any comfort but I had to redo week 4 run 2 too and felt really dejected. I did the runs but had to take a longer rest before the final five minutes and like you, wondered how I was going to do week 5.

I went on this forum and got some excellent advice and encouragement. I was basically running too fast and though I felt I couldn't go any slower, it turns out a quick look at Japanese slow running on YouTube really helped. I completed week 4 today and felt like I had more energy and wasn't as exhausted. I'm sure you can get over this blip so don't beat yourself up too much and maybe look at what other people have done when they've felt disheartened.

Thanks for all the advice and encouragement. Just finished W5R1 today and felt great!

Luckily nobody told me the helicopter above the fields I was running in was looking for an armed murder suspect until I got back...
