Wanna Run In This?

Do you run or do you even want to run if something like this guy is hurtling towards you? I check the weather forecast to find out the nature of his business first, you know, speed, volatility, wetness, etc…. Normally, all that will happen is getting wet but we get wet when running anyway. If this is not January and the weather is mild, running in heavy rain can be huge fun. The only time I draw the line is when the wind picks up some volatile speeds. Than can be annoying if it starts to bounce you about, and downright dangerous if it starts throwing various things at you. Always be careful if running in high winds if close to trees, even houses if the roofs get damaged, and especially very close to the sea. The speed at which waves can hit and retreat, preferably without me in their grasp, can be an eye opener for those unused to nature's freak shows. As they say, enjoy but be very careful and very, very responsible!

That guy you see in that photograph is Storm Francis, he is causing a lot of rain and gales in many parts of the UK today, certainly not a good day for a run, good photo of that squal of ☔ rain coming towards you.

I actually took this shot two weeks ago when on holiday in Zadar, Croatia. Today's storm inspired me to post it. It took very little time for toxic mix to brew (air pressure, very hot weather and humidity) and whip up a passing storm. From calm sea to fast and big waves that smashed up all deck chairs and sun umbrellas that we left outside we only waited minutes for. Locals recognise this weather in an instant and go inside. Tourists? There is always a fool braving the elements in a small boat, being lucky to reach the shore later. I followed the locals, forgot about the chairs. 🤪

I remember visiting the Isle of Skye as a kid in the early 1980s. We'd been to Talisker Bay and marvelled at the black volcanic sand there. On the walk back to the car we could see the rain approaching and picked up our pace, eventually breaking out into a run.

But it was for nought. The horizontal rain hit us when we were about 100 yards from the car and soaked us all to the skin.

Yep. It's not easy to run away from this. Once the wind picks up, you're wet. 😉

It had the right mix. The smell of sea, hot summer day and then the wind. It was wild. An hour later it was calm, sunny and hot. My deck chairs were like scattered sliver. 😉
