Consolidation Week 4

And straight to the IC... My last planned week of consolidation before starting to increase distance, and that took 2 weeks rather than 1 as I was feeling unwell and very weak through the middle of it. But once over that I felt a little twinge in my right knee about 2.5k into a run, that went away within 20m or so, and I thought nothing of it - I was on a rough farm track at the time and felt it was maybe me being off balance or something. Completed the run with no other problems, and had reached 6k in the 30 mins.

Next run (on Wed - I've been too depressed to post about it ๐Ÿ˜– ) started fine, but just on the 4k mark I felt the same knee pain and eased off, but within the 20m or so it was very painful, and I had to stop. Lots of icing and ibuprofen eased the initial pain, and it is getting better, but can still be painful. Annoyingly it isn't continuously painful, and feels fine for ages, before the same pain shoots through it for a fraction of a second and goes again... I'm taking it easy and leaving it till Monday, and if it is still sore then will call the GP and see what they say. I'm just back from a 4.5k walk round the start of my route with my 7yo, and not a single peep from it, so hopefully not too serious. I've attached a photo from the last time we walked it, to keep me going ๐Ÿ˜ข

Obviously I need cheering up, I started a new job last Monday, and the extra pay from unused holidays from the previous job has gone on a Garmin 735XT with chest strap, down from ยฃ349 to ยฃ199 on Amazon right now - smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/produ...

I will make do for now with watching everyone else making progress as a proxy for me. Get cracking everyone!

Sorry to read about your knee but I think getting professional advice is a good idea if it remains sore. Knees can be tricky (I know this from personal experience!)

Do you know of any Sports Physio's near you? They really are worth their weight in gold when it comes to running injuries - worth bearing in mind if it continues to be a nuisance.

Sometimes the knee itself is not the problem but tightness in the fascia and muscles of the leg which in turn affect the knee, so foam rolling and stretching can help. If you are covering 6k in 30 mins then you are clearly a pretty speedy runner๐Ÿ‘ so you may have developed some tightness somewhere?

Fingers crossed that it settles soon and you can get out there with your new Garmin!๐Ÿคž๐Ÿ™‚

I have had similar to you and agree completely with Sandraj39 it took me a long time and three different physioโ€™s to get it sorted. Now I stretch everyday ๐Ÿ˜
