So I completed run 1 of week 5 today. I must admit that I really enjoyed the run. Since restarting Couch to 5k (having failed to complete the programme on two previous attempts), I have been taking it easy and running really slowly to build stamina (based on advise I have received on this forum).
Today, I was feeling really good towards the end of the session, so for the last 90 seconds, I stepped it up a notch and ran much faster than I have been running. At the end of the run I was completely out of breath but it was a good feeling.
As I don't want to mess things up, I thought I should ask if this approach is advisable.

The faster you run the greater your risk of injury through impact, so staying slow throughout is the safest way forward.
However, stepping up the pace in the last part of a C25k run is probably the best way to stretch yourself and in fact I recommend it in this post about speed healthunlocked.com/couchto5...
I also mention in this post that doing this in W5 or W6 may not be the most appropriate time to attempt this.
It is probably best to do this on level ground and also to attempt to increase cadence rather than stride length, as overstriding is a major cause of issues for knees and shins.
