Hill start?

Starting week 8, and like most people, I’ve amazed myself. I’m genuinely excited about my run tomorrow and am planning a new route. Downhill. We live in a really hilly area and have been running mainly round one v flat park but we have to drive there and, really, i’d like to run straight from the front door. I know that I could walk to the best bit and will time myself from there but as a v slow runner (on track for 5k I’m 48ish mins) I’m worried that hills in general will kill me. Is it worth even starting now? Or something to work up to seeing as I’ve ‘only’ got six (6!) runs left. Thanks!

I also in hilly area, i run from front door, i used to drive to park, but thought defeating object so just bit the bullet and ran from home uphill for 5 min warm up and get breath back on the flatter bits between hills, I am knocking on a bit and have COPD so breathing is my big problem but the hills help, give it a go

Thank you. I’ve just looked at your other posts and you’ve inspired me. I’m going to go downhill r1 and try to come back r2 but seeing how far up I get! Jx

Hills make you stronger and probably slower, but for every hill you get to run up there is usually the same amount of downhill.

Many will say wait. I would say run up the hills and if you can't make it to the top, turn round and run back down...........maybe get a little bit further up next time.
