I graduated in NOVEMBER last year and was consolidating nicely, running twice a week including the weekly park run. But on New Years Day I got the lurgy. Proper flu, in bed for over a week and nearly a month before I felt able to exercise. I have done a couple of short (half mile) runs at a little under the pace I was running at (I am not a fast runner so snails’ pace is normal for me) but I was puffing like a train. Tomorrow I am going to run a little further (1 mile) but with walk blocks in between jogs. I am also back on my bike (not so difficult, but hills do also make me puff more than they use to). As I am not a patient person this is not easy for me.

I understand your frustration shake-and-run. You probably feel that you’ve gone backwards. But a slow introduction is the safest way to go to regain your running distance and time. I’ve been unable to run this week due a rotten cold and high temperature and it’s so frustrating seeing blue skies through the bedroom window, but not being able to run. Continuing alternating short runs with your cycling to regain your stamina sounds a good idea.
Sorry about your cold and high temperature Dexy5, I hope very soon your cold will go and you will be able to run again.
