Will running help or hinder a strained hamstring?

I am a 63 year old male who took up walking football a few weeks ago almost immediately I strained my left hamstring and now find it hard to play. Could I run (or more accurately jog!) instead? Will jogging aggravate the injury or help? Does anyone know? Thanks. Mike
