Week 4 Run 2 - dark & safety?

Does anyone else feel a bit unsafe in the dark mornings?

I hesitated before going out, but one look at the hotel gym and realised it would be preferable.

Still plenty of police around St James Park in prep for the state opening of Parliament today.

So that's the second run since restarting. My legs are feeling it!!

I started my c25k journey running outside, but I was feeling increasingly more unsafe every run, I don't know why, iv never been scared of the dark before, I think it was the vulnerability of being so engrossed in what your doing and the fear of being too tired from running to run away from danger... A new gym opened locally to me a few weeks ago, an they had a really good opening offer, I have enjoyed the program so much more from the safety of a treadmill!

I am lucky to be able to run with a rather large scary-looking (but actually super friendly) rottweiler who I have trained to bark on command, so she helps me feel safe. Even so, I dont like running in the dark anywhere where there are blind corners, or where I cant see to far in front of me. But the treadmill is always a safe bet if you have the option and dont mind it!

Most of my runs, I've done in the gym, mainly for safety, like slippery paths, and I dislike the dark.

Would love to have a dog to keep me company. Can't have everything

Yes the dark is more of a problem some days than others . When it's wet too especially lots of leaves on paths. Makes me a little concerned. Soon the days will start to lengthen 😊

I run outside in the dark, but make sensible decisions about where I run & only wear one earbud so I can hear traffic etc. If there are other runners and dog walkers around, I feel okay.

I like St James park, ( for me, it’s the stuff of holidays), presumably there were other runners out there too? 😄

I stick to the paths in my village but also wear a chest light harness which shines like Iron Man at the front and has red lights on the back.

Means I have a better chance at spotting any trip hazards and that I should be seen more easily in these dark mornings.

Thanks, yes there were some other runners but also stretches with noone. I could see fine from the urban lighting, its more the feeling of unsafe I guess!

But it will be getting lighter again from here on in...

I did take a look at the hotel "gym" but treadmills look a bit intimidating and I'd prefer to be outside in fresh air.
