Okay... I admit it... One of my mantras that has run a thread through my entire life has been "People should only run when chased by a lion". However, reaching 52 and having never run, even for a bus, caught up with me. So, I decided to take the challenge and join in with something a few guys at work were doing - never believing for a single moment that I'd get there.
W1 was tough - but I'd cycled previously (a little mountain biking, nothing serious) so in the whole scheme of things, not painful.
W2 was okay, but still tough
W3 was where the problems started. Both knees were hurting VERY badly. It felt as though my joints had run dry and were about to seize. I went out for a run with my girlfriend who asked "Do you always start off so quickly?". I was obviously going bull-like and not regulating my speed. So, I had a few weeks off. During this time something strange happened... I actually missed running!
W2 (yes, I went back a week to try to pay penance for slacking during the aching knee period) - this felt good. I'd also joined the local gym and started running on the treadmill (it was bump-free and I could regulate my speed).
W3 came and went...
Here we are today - I ran my first 5K earlier this week. My second 2 days later. I've been for a gait analysis this morning and bought myself a new pair of running shoes as a celebration of this week's victory.
No one is more amazed than I at this. I'm so impressed with the C25K programme that I've become a bit of an evangelist. Whoever came up with this deserves a medal (gold, of course).
What started as a half-hearted commitment to a couple of people at work is now turning into a bit of the 'thing'.
Now, where's that lion...?

Hi, I have the same evangelistic approach and would love everyone to try it ! I’m supposed to start week9 but challenged by sciatic pain in one leg at the moment. Anyhow talking about🦁 ...yesterday I had to get out of a plane and try to catch a bus which rarely passes, and I made it only because I was able to run through the airport without dying after 30 seconds. My son was amused but also happy we could catch the bus. The 🦁 will come when you less expect it.
Lol, I had the same view...shared a post on Facebook a few times that said, "I don't run, if you see me running you should run too, coz something is chasing me!"
Now after a bit of run/walking alone, then C25K and Bridge to 10K, I like you am a runner!
Who knew exercise could be enjoyable, and it's good for you! 😀🏃♂️🏃♀️👍
