Hi,

Had to do this run earlier today as had plans for during the day. So off I went at 8.30am and got soaked in the process. Did it, enjoyed it, but boy can I feel it. My glutes and quads are sore!

Good for you planning your run into your schedule! 😄 Go gently- are you stretching before & after? - Needs to be dynamic ( moving, not static) stretches before your run. 😄

Hi,

Yes, I do the pre run stretches, and the post run stretches that are linked in the “how to...” post. And I do some non run day exercises I found on Runners world website. I think it’s my body saying “What the heck’s going on?” Haha

Yes I think you are right! Great you are stretching. 😄

I too am doing W2. I am redoing C25K after a back injury ( not running related) & like you, I tried running for the first time in my late 50s. Good luck, this program is amazing & life changing! 😄

Getting soaked seems to be in a lot of posts at the moment. But you did it, keep stretching after every run and lots of walking In between to keep everything moving. Well done you 😊😊

Well done Wenderwoo, especially for still doing it despite the weather. I'm planning to do W2R2 tomorrow morning (and have just checked, it is supposed to be dry), then R3 on Saturday (which currently shows 10% precipitation, but I'm not going to let that stop me!). So far I've not found the need to do any stretches before going out, but I do try and stretch out as soon as I get back. Maybe as I do more the need will arise. Keep up the progress & keep on letting us know how you're doing, I certainly find it inspiring.

Stretching helps avoid injury. It’s a good idea to always do

It did indeed. Despite the rain I got quite hot! Still trying to work out best clothes to wear in this current weather.

Well done Wenderoo and well done for going out in all conditions. I did my C25K on the treadmill and although since completing it I’m still running three times weekly, I haven’t ventured outside yet, so absolutely hats off to you and anyone else who runs outdoors in all weathers. I didn’t do any stretching for the first three or four weeks then was advised to by a friend also doing C25K and since doing so have found the next run so much easier/less achy. I’m in my mid 50’s and nearly 20 stone (but shrinking) and am now of the opinion that the older I get the more necessary stretching and keeping everything moving is. Good luck with the remainder of the programme 👌

Thanks! I’m a great believer in both pre and post stretching, and strongly believe that it helps prevent injury. Thanks for the support, and keep moving! 😁

I've just done W2R2. My groins were really sore after the first run this week so before run 2 I did a bit of stretching at the end of my warm up walk and made a conscious decision to set off for my runs at a slower steadier pace. That and my body getting used to the idea that this is going to be the new norm (hopefully!) seems to have helped as the soreness has now settled.

Thanks for that advice. I’m nervous about R3 tomorrow, but I’m going to attempt it and will take what you’ve said on board. Sweet dreams 😁
