Last week blues

Just a little flat 😕 Have experienced surprise then support from lovely family and friends over the weeks.

Now a little bit of - when you’ve finished this you can go back to...has crept in.

Well. I could think of this as a 9 week activity and stop. OR I could build on all that work and carry on. I’m not sure going back is really an option now.

Nooooo...don't stop lol. There is so much more you can do after you've graduated.

I have my parents visiting, my mum suggested tai chi instead and my dad asked me if I should be as red in the face as I was....they just didn't realise they weren't being supportive. Dad did have a drink with me to celebrate 10k lol. Sometimes people just don't get it, but thzt's ok cos they don't have to...you're the only one that needs to : ) we're here to back you up.

It isn't an option, we won't let you give up....Think why you began this..think how far you have come and think that we all run with you, and think you are awesome!!

The idea of finishing C25K is a little weird, isn't it. You've followed a programme and then it's over, so you're done, right? But no. You've put this much effort into loving and believing in yourself you can't just stop. You might take a few days off, after all, the 3 runs a week pressure is off. But then you'll start getting itchy legs, they'll be telling you to go out because they need to run. Your mood will tell you the same, you'll be getting grumpier without your runs.

But you can take it easy, you don't have to go for 30 minutes each time. Or you can carry on listening to the app to get you through the first few post grad runs. You might find you just want to put on your own sweet music and go.

But I don't think you'll stop. Running is a part of you now x

I think that significant others have thought this was a 9 week fad. And things will now get back to ‘normal’ 😂

I found it helpful to set some longterm goals, So when I started as well as finishing I had a 6k event booked for the end of July. I have now committed to a couple of 10k events in April and May next year and told people so there is no going back. Having events in next year will keep me going through the winter hopefully.

Set a goal, then tell people. It is harder to give up once you have committed. Works for me 😀

That is good advice. Thank you 😊

My mum was at my house when I got back from a run on Sunday. She was incredulous that I had been running “in the rain?!?!?!”

It’s not for anyone else to “get”. Enjoy your head space. X

Just be you and do what you want to do. I’m a very faddish person but wanting to increase my fitness, stamina, recovery time and mental health is something that is important to me and it will never be a 9 week process. People just don’t understand so let them think it then prove them wrong. I think I have only told 3 people my plans and one of them is my wife who needed to know as I couldn’t explain getting out of bed at 4 in the morning. It’s no ones business but yours

Yes that’s the best way to look at it. I’m glad you explained about the 4 in the morning get ups! 😂

Yeah just imagine her asking why I'm coming home at 5 sweating like I am waiting to be sentenced

No it’s not an option, build on what you have achieved, that’s runners high is well worth chasing every time! Do you know I am now 8 weeks beyond my graduation (back in June) and I still run three times a week! I mix it up a bit to keep motivated but the journey doesn’t have to stop!

I do understand, I think. I’m still on week five but I’ve been thinking ahead and I can see that it’ll be different without this framework. I think those C25k+ podcasts will help, and maybe Bridge to 10K? But also keep posting on here to inspire people like me, and I’m sure you’ll get the support still. And remember, this running thing is for you, not anyone else! 👏🏻

I struggle with the motivation a bit now I graduated. But then I think of the high it gave me to complete each run and the good feeling after each run (not necessarily during 😀) and think to myself that I cannot let the good work go to waste. This is the first time in my life I can run for 30 minutes, I can't stop now! I'm going to try the park run, when I get back from holiday. Maybe beating my time to complete it each time might be the next target... sorry, didn't mean to turn this into all about me post, just wanted to say I know how you feel 😊

Thank you. It’s really good to hear how you are going to keep going. I have set a goal, too now for November. Probably I should have put my glasses on before I agreed, but I’m doing it 💪
