Curvature of spine

Hi guys - I’ve been recommended to stop running which I’m gutted about as my physio says I have curvature of spine. Running will make it worse with the pounding as I’m already suffering from lower back ache. Just wondered if anyone thinks I should get a second opinion on this as I love running and have just completed c25k

So sorry to read this. I’d always get a second opinion... much as I rate physios highly, they’re not always right... and maybe a break and some kind of strengthening/flexibility work could have you back running. Obviously I don’t know.

Did they say anything about it being repetitive impact that was the issue? I’m wondering because I’ve read articles for arthritic runners that advise trail running as it’s less impact than road running and also each footfall is different. Again, I’m no medical expert, but it could be worth looking into.

Then, there’s these weird things enko-running-shoes.com/en/ that claim to make running a non-impact sport. They’re not cheap but do last a lot longer than regular running shoes are specced at. I’d love to have a run in a pair.

Hopefully this isn’t the end of your running, but if it is then maybe cycling or swimming could deliver your endorphins, cardio workout and general fitness.

Thanks for your lovely response. He wasn’t very clear and he ( physio) was very anti- running ( and also clearly physical very unfit himself ) I had back ache before I started running and it has got worse but he did recommend swimming and cycling - as alternatives. Maybe if I could lose some

More weight whichthe running was def helping with- it could ease the pressure on my back. I think I may seek a second opinion.

I'm sorry to read this, that must have been hard to hear.

Definitely get a second opinion, especially reading in your reply to unfitnomore that your physio is not a runner... ha! You could look for a sports physio, or try a chiropractor (and try and find a running chiropractor :D )

My neighbour has a mild scoliosis and runs half marathons, and has just won a powerlifting championship...

Good luck x

I’m going to make an appointment at a sports clinic - and pay for it - think it’s worth it as I feel I’ve come so far with my running. Also I’m going to check

Out the special running trainers which were recommended in the previous post - first I’ll wait to see the physio as if they say don’t run - no point forkingout for new trainers just yet
