Post run Pain in the Ankle

End of wk7 run3, well once I’d got home, left ankle bone hurt like heck. I’ve not banged it or gone over on it. A day later back to normal though same again after tonight’s run. Really hoping I’ve not done anything too serious that prevents me graduating. Any thoughts on what it is and what I can do?

My first thought would be to take an extra rest day... it went and then came back, so may well just be a slight weakness reacting to this new regime. If it persists, get it checked out by a doctor or physio.

Have a read of this runnersworld.com/health-inj... I wouldn’t recommend adding strength work right now in case you have an injury that needs rest, but if you can take extra rest and it settles down, then strengthening it will only help.

Take an extra rest day.

Read the faq article on running slow (in case you are pushing your pace too much)

At week 7 I introduced pre run stretching and post run stretching to reduce injury risk, which I felt kept me going till the end.

I’ve had Achilles tendinitis before (before c25k) and that’s painful although easily treatable, I’m not saying you have this but when someone mentions ankles I think of this first.

Maybe use this time to take on the advice, read up, see the doc and find what works for you to keep you on the plan.

Thanks. I’d slowed the pace right down and have done warm up exercises which our Couch to 5 don’t do. I got gait assessed and have bought new trainers which feel much more supportive though not tried in anger as had to stop. Been diagnosed with tendinitis so out fo a couple of weeks. Gutted as only had three runs before actual 5k. Still better to rest now and be able to run in future than not at all.
