Mud, mud mud

Just got back from a horribly muddy and slippery run in the woods - it was really raining hard here in Kent this morning so I waited until it eased off a bit. But the lovely sandy paths in the woods were a squelchy mess of puddles and mud. Had to slow down and walk a couple of parts because I was sliding more than running! Now to rest up before my first ever 5km race on Sunday, hopefully in nicer conditions!

Well done. It’s fun out there even in the rain. “Slip slidin away, slip sliding away, you know the nearer your destination the more you’re slip slidin away” .......trilled Paul Simon 😁🏃‍♀️👍

Good luck with your race. Hopefully it will be ideal conditions for you 🤞

😂 I'll remember that tune for the next muddy one! I have to say it wasn't fun, I was scared of falling and ending up on the Injury Couch! But pleased I did it.

Good luck tomorrow! 😀

Bravo! 😄 welcome to the wild wetlands! Half the fun is jumping from solid surface to surface and staying upright in the mud, but it is fun as your smiling selfie shows! 👍🤣

😂 That's a smile of sheer relief that I made it round without disappearing into a muddy puddle!

I know the feeling! 🤣 I heartily recommend waterproof socks for winter! 😉

Can there be such things? I like the sound of that!

Oh yes! My Dexshell ultra thin socks were a revelation! One very memorable run I was running/wading through a trail that was literally just one massive puddle for 5k with my feet totally submerged for the duration... but still dry at the end! 👍😄

Wow, that's amazing! Will check them out!

I run on trails and some days you can barely stand up 😁. If you fall over you get a soft landing 😃🏃‍♀️ The farmer has left all of a width of one shoe to run on 🙄. how considerate of him 🤨

The loggers in the woods have done similar. I hate them. 😂

Yes, curse them every time you run on their slippery parapet as you struggle to put one foot in front of the other. It’s like the beam in gymnastics wo-aah, teeter 😁😁.

Trail shoes for mud conditions are good if you think you’re going to be making mud running a habit 👍. I always seem to end up in my slippiest shoes for running on mud, because my forward planning is so useless 🤨 Doh 🙈. Although in mitigation, I did read somewhere that Altra Torin’s are trail shoes. They’re clearly not 😬

Ooh, not heard of that brand. The ones I have are Karrimor trail Tempo 3, not sure how they compare to other trail shoes. I bought them years ago because they were cheap and I was full of good intentions and they sat in their box unused until March 2019. 😅

And yes, maybe I should be thanking the loggers for turning me into an involuntary gymnast! 😂

Oh they were my first ever running shoes! I still have them but I use them for gym stuff They washed up a treat

I bought the road version too. both versions are a tad slippery but are ok for most circumstances A muddy trail run requires a grippy mud running shoe however. That is if you’re going to run there regularly, to justify the cost. Mind you my Saucony Peregrines were cheap enough Keep an eye out for sales. Last year’s models and less popular colours are much cheaper. I run on a very stony trail regularly😬 so use the Peregrines which have a rock plate

It's my regular running spot just 5 minutes walk from my front door so definitely worth getting grippier shoes... Will have a look at the Saucony ones you mentioned... This running is starting to get expensive! ☺

Thank you! It's somewhere local I haven't run before but I know people who have and they all say it is a good route. I'll be happy with anything that hasn't been churned up and covered in ruts by logging vehicles, frankly! 😂

Everybody likes jumping up and down in muddy puddles. Apparently... those words are still embedded in my brain from when little Miss UNM was little.

Well done out there and enjoy your race.

Ugh, I hate muddy runs. Some people seem to revel in them but I hate them!

All the very best for the race! :)
