I am sad: unfortunately the pain in the pubis / hip that I started suffering three weeks ago continues ...
Initially I tried to rest for a while, but then I realized that every time I tried to run again the day after the pain was more acute at every step (more walking than running!).
A few days ago I went to a good physiotherapist who practiced manipulations and frankly advised me against running in a frequent and systematic way because of the inevitable traumas that running causes ( much better walking fast or cycling). I am a bit disappointed because during the whole program I felt really healthy...
So now I am resting and only walking...reading your enthusiastic posts makes me feel excluded from this lovely community.

I am so sorry you have had trouble with running and understand how being on the forum could make you feel that way. We set up an Active 10 (used to be called walking for health) forum especially for this reason. There will be some familiar names on there and it is just as friendly, if you want to have a look there as well
I have no specific reason, anyway Iāll wait until I have solved the problem and then Iāll try again, but I will pay more attention to the stress signs that my body sends me.
Many of us have difficulties and they can often, but unfortunately not always, be overcome.
I am presently researching my own issues and have uncovered reputable studies that refute my oncologist's opinion, which I am frankly quite shocked to find that she was not aware of. These experts are just people with fallibilities, like all of us, and while their advice may be based on their best knowledge, sometimes there are gaps in that knowledge.
I would seek out a second opinion if I were told to stop doing something that I held dear, especially running, which on balance has more benefits than disadvantages to my health and well being.
Whatever the long term outcome, I wish you all the best for your future.
The physiotherapist spoke in general in affirming that running causes repeated small traumas (obviously of very different effects in relation for example of our weight/joints condition/age).
He is very competent, but, like you, I also think that we must research what is best for each of us, so I wonāt give up, but probably will give me smaller goals in running. Iāll let you know...š
Hopefully this is a temporary setback... I too like active 10 and as itās brisk walking it may be the bridge to getting back to running. Iād be tempted to go for a second opinion as above, as youāve been given no specific reason then I would question that prognosis. I read a study that walking actually puts more shock through the knees, not sure about hips though.
I was fine until I pushed myself past about 14/15k and I did it too quickly without consolidating each distance for a week or two. Then my hip started playing up. I thought it was just because Iād been running in the same position for such a length of time ( it took me over 3 hours to do my HM). But it has been niggling me since last summer, even when I had to take a break for chest Infection for over 3 months.
I had sports massages, Epsom salt baths, took ibuprofen, did Pilates and loads of stretches, even had 5 sessions with a chiropractic ( which helped).
But then I read up about it. And it looks like I have either strained or torn the gluteus minimus. A common runners problem once you start running longer distances .
