Freestyle: 1st run of the year, didn’t do the C... - Couch to 5K
Freestyle
Well done..............but freestyling is not necessarily within the recommended incremental increases in training regimes that are sensible for a new runner to follow.
Many of us are capable of doing way more than C25K sessions but as a new runner you must not underestimate the physical impact of running on your body. I have a dossier of fit young people who thought that C25K was too easy and went their own way, only to regret it when injury struck.
The gentle progression of C25K will build your stamina and strength gradually and at the same time decrease your risk of injury. Doing too much too soon is an all too common cause of injury that can stop you from running for days, weeks or months.
A good training plan is the only safe way to make slow and steady progress.
You might get away with freestyling........... you might not.....
I couldn’t agree more. After I graduated I tried to move straight onto the Bridge to 10K, an app that I found. Big mistake. Too much way too soon but I didn’t realise it at the time. As soon as I realised that my body was suffering, I stopped and followed the advice that I should have taken in the first place. I’ve now done many consolidation runs since November and have just started the Bridge to 10K again. This time round, I’m feeling good and loving the challenge.
