You’re not failing... you are succeeding in hitting out there and running... that’s very good progress when you think about it. Maybe you’re trying to run too fast, slow down a little and you’ll be able to go longer which should help to complete the run. Every run makes you stronger so every time you cross the startling your health and fitness is getting a benefit. You’ll get there and you’ll complete this.

Hi RickASCII, have you said the F** word?? 😳 it is forbidden here! The only run you can fail is the one you do not start! If you are short of breath most likely it is that you are going too fast. It is difficult at the beginning to pace ourselves! Thinking of jogging gently instead of running could help. You should not be passed by lampposts, but snails 🐌 should outpace you! 🤣 give it a try, I am sure you will do great!! 💪

You probably need to slow down 😊

I don't know about you, but the only running I'd done previous to this was at school, and the aim was always to go as fast as possible.

With C25K, the aim is to go as slowly as possible. Slow builds stamina, reduces the risk of injury and makes it easier to carry on for longer. Think snail 🐌🐌

Give it a try and let us know how you get on!

Best way to do it Mate is not to run the same pace every time. Maybe run your 4th run abit slower Like a nice slow jog. You might find that’ll help!

Also mate, don’t run everyday. Make sure you have a rest the day before.

'Out of breath'

THAT'S your clue! S L O W D O W N!

Think JOG not 'run' ... Search YouTube for "Quick steps: The running shuffle

" and use that as a guide.

Try to go at a pace that is 'conversational', i.e. one where you can still talk comfortably at or sing to yourself. You should aim to finish each session feeling comfortable and feeling like you could carry on - even W1R1!

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5... and gives advice on pace.

You probably have got the message by now......... if you cannot speak aloud, clear ungasping sentences then you are going too fast.

Speed comes later.

Enjoy your journey.

Yeah as everyone here says slow down. As long as you do a running action it is okay to slow jog at walking pace, and probably preferable to run at walking pace at the early stage. Also make sure you have comfortable trainers or preferably running shoes.
