W9R2 Running in the dark

Another good run, once I had passed the first five minutes which I have still not learned to love. Decided to wait until the end of the warm up walk before starting my Strava to get a better idea of how far I am actually running in 30 mins. I covered 3.9k today which I think I am happy with.

I felt so good towards the end that I even upped the pace for the last minute or so and could definitely have carried on beyond 30 mins so I'm feeling really positive about being able to run 5k before too long.

Anyway, about the dark. Tonight was my first evening run since the clocks changed. My route wasn't ideal and I felt quite vulnerable at times. Just wondered, do others wear reflective vests or wear lights, or both? I've been online but there are so many different options available that I'm finding it a bit confusing πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

Great job. High vis and a headlight would be my choice, reflective top and bottom half preferably. Enjoy your graduation run.

Nice run!

Regarding high vis jackets etc, it depends where are you running. I am on pavements with lights, so I'm using neon yellow vest (not reflective, I bought it for Β£3.50 in Decathlon). But if you are more off road or side of the road, you should invest in some proper head/chest light and high vis jacket. Stay safe!

Me too. On pavements I occasionally wear headtorch (street lighting is patchy round these parts) and neon running gear - most gear has a fair amount of reflective stuff.

But on roads always a head torch (including a red light at the rear) and a hi vis vest as well. I run on the right (facing the traffic) and try to use routes where there is at least a verge I can jump onto if a car isn’t going to give me enough room (most do on country roads).

I find it easier running in the dark . Recently ran about a mile in total darkness on a rural bike path. Probablyenot tbe safest thing to do but enjoyed not being able to look too far ahead .

I've just treat myself to the brightest fluorescent running top I could find and some leggings with reflective stripes down the legs. All my running is done in the morning so therefore in the dark. All my "summer" gear was dark blue so I was like you and felt very vulnerable. All the gear is from decathlon and not too expensive. Enjoy....

I enjoy running in the dark! I have leggings and a jacket from karrimor and the bottom half of the leggings are reflective when hit with light and the arms on the jacket are. Looks well funky in headlights πŸ˜‚
