W7R3 when your playlist gives you that extra boost

I’ve had a few days off but my last couple of runs have been good - my last run in fact I even increased my speed a wee bit - so I jumped straight back in this morning. Final run of week 7.

I had really enjoyed reading someone else’s post yesterday about their playlist (sorry, I have no idea how to post a link) and so I figured I would try and concentrate more on my music today and let the running take care of itself.

Eugh... despite Fleetwood Mac ‘The Chain’ making me feel all powerful in my head, five minutes in I was really worried. My legs felt heavy. I couldn’t find my pace. Next five minutes, some different tunes but more of the same. I actually slowed right down at one point and walked for 30 secs, drank some water, got my head together.

Radiohead ‘Jigsaw falling into place’. Yes, this feels a bit more like it, finally my breathing seemed to know what it was doing, but I was tired. And I still had so far to go.

Next track up was Stone Roses ‘Fools Gold’. I was seriously flagging at this point, but I love this song, it’s floppy and laid back and always chills me out so I thought to myself, even if I just make it to the end of this song and I can walk the last wee bit. I zoned into the music, and was concentrating on the wacca-wacca guitar and channeling my inner Bez when it dawned on me that this was the 12 inch version I was listening to and that I’d hardly noticed it’s almost TEN MINUTES long. My time was nearly up.

W7 complete, not a great run, but a good session learning to fight my inner gremlins.

Anyone else want to share their favourite running track?

I do think good lyrics which are uplifting are crucial when we start to flag

I have loads of fave tracks for all terrains, distances, time of day. My fave stone roses one is the remixed version of Resurrection. It’s a belter 😃

Footloose is a must! As is the oldie but goodie, Land of a Thousand Dances by Wilson Picket. My faves at the moment are slow tunes. I love the blues so LED Zep always features. Dylan always puts in an appearance as does Rod. Crazy Horse and John Martyn at the moment.

Fast wise though I love Baba O’Riley, One Republic’s Love Runs Out and burning Love by Elvis.

I will need to have a look out for the Resurrection remix. I love a bit of Zeppelin and John Martyn too. Bluesy basslines and good drum beats do it for me. And Footloose! I might have to add that. I admit... I have some cheesy stuff on my playlist already, Kenny Loggins - Dangerzone. (Don’t laugh 😂)
