Wk7 Disappointment......

Having completed Wk6 on a real high, I even signed up for the Plymouth 5K in October and bought trainers to replace my 20 year old pair with flapping soles. I went out for the start of Wk7 with a real confidence that I had really cracked it. All went well until about 2 minutes to go and I got a sharp pain in my calf - I was able to carry on until the end but the pain got really bad by the end of the 5 minute warm down to the point that I couldn't really put any weight on it. Absolutely gutted as for the first time in my life I had a great enthusiasm for running!! Hey ho, I guess I am at an age when injuries are more likely when starting to get active but really disappointing that my progress will be on hold for a while...…..

Oh no, that doesn't sound good at all :(

I'm not at all wise in these things, but what I would say is rest rest rest for now and seek medical advice, your doctor should be able to work out whether it's just a simple muscle strain or something more serious like your leg about to fall off, and tell you whether to exercise it gently or rest. I picked up a knee injury around week 5 I think and hobbled through to week 9 with a little break, but whatever you do, get some advice yeah? We will still be cheering you on *when* you return! Remember too, better to take a couple of weeks off now voluntarily than to have to take 6 months off when you have no choice!

All the best, definitely rooting for you!!

Eek, gosh darn it! Sounds like a calf micro tear. These things can happen unfortunately. I got one well into a slow run when well warmed up and on my way home🤨

It could be a tight Achilles which will be fine after a rest day. Exercise for our calves is a good plan. Don’t do any while in pain though !

It should be fine after rest, and maybe painkillers last thing at night. If not, see a doc 👍
