Still on the IC...

A week in the Scottish Borders coincided with advice from my physio to try gentle running-walking, so that's what I did. The first time I reverted to W1 R1 as that sounded pretty close to what he suggested, but being on narrow single-track roads I stuck Laura in one ear only so I could listen out for cars. Even so, it made me a bit nervous so the next two times I ditched her and the iPod altogether and intended to alternate 1 min running/1 min walking. However, I kept forgetting to look at my watch and kept losing track of what I was doing, so it ended up being a bit random and 'organic' 🙃

I did take a leaf out of Fabulous450's book❤️and spontaneously explored a couple of interesting footpaths alongside the Teviot just because they were there and I could- first experience of off road running! (OK, running-walking). I did find it hard to keep the outings short, as the views and light were so tempting - I just wish I'd been able to do some proper runs. I never would have dreamed that I'd be saying that about a holiday, or that I'd take running gear with me and use it.

Annoyingly the leg pain is still there, and I could definitely feel it getting worse during the running 😔, so couldn't wait for my physio appointment today. He's had another good go at my pelvis and lower back, and he said he was quite aggressive, so fingers crossed. Poor guy, I think his hand was starting to hurt where my pelvis was digging into it. Have to give it a couple of days 'to settle' as he put it, before trying the running-walking again. I think this time I'll try to be a bit more strict about it - keep it shorter and try to make sure I really am running only 1 minute at a time.

It was interesting to see my resting heart rate drop a good 7-8 beats during the last week, but a little depressing to watch it start to creep back up now I'm back at work. Oh well, it is what it is.

I've not done a very good job of catching up on posts, but I'll keep trying!

x

Oh Eiralas what a photo!! I had to do a double take to see if that was real! That’s some view! Perfect for the run-walk! It’s not ideal, but its a recovery run and it’s in the bag!! Well done you!! I hope the next session is less painful for you, but you have what sounds like a good plan to continue without set back! Brilliant!! ❤️❤️

Yes the views were glorious - that was just outside the cottage we stayed in. Thanks for your encouragement - you always remind me to stay positive :-)

Wow, that is a lovely view Eiralas. I’m not surprised you got a little carried away. On the positive side, if you forgot to stop because you were distracted then hopefully your pain is lessening because it didn’t remind you it was there. Fingers crossed you’re getting there🤞 x

Thanks TailChaser - I was aware of the pain, and probably too used to running with it from before. It was too tempting to 'just see what's round the next bend in the path'... Back home I should have fewer distractions so it will be easier to focus.

Ah yes, got the t-shirt on that one. You just want to push it just a bit longer. Good luck with your recovery, fingers crossed you are getting there despite the temptations.

Yep, must try not to get over excited and stay cautious. Think snails. 🐌
