When I did my first ever 5k run last week I switched on the Fitbit tracking app so that every km a voice in my ear told me how far I had come and how long it had taken me. The thing is that it seemed to be way ahead of itself - not only was it telling me that I was running at a previously unheard of speed but it calculated that the end of the race was a whole km before the actual finish!
It was a well run and well established race and I’m pretty confident that it was only 5km and not 6km as the Fitbit app claimed.
Has anyone else experienced this? Are other apps more reliable?

Has your fit bit got gps? I find that gps trackers are more accurate than step counters. Even then there can be little discrepancies but a whole km sounds too much, I very much doubt the event made that sort of mistake.
Yes, it’s got GPS. I did drop my phone at the beginning of the race - although presumably that wouldn’t affect the tracker... I agree that the event won’t have made that sort of mistake. Hopefully it’s a blip - my run this morning gave me my expected speed and distance and not the enhanced data of the race!
