Hi there! Just finished run two of week one. I am aware it’s important to rest in between runs but what about walking in between?

Yes that’s fine! Also cycling, swimming. Well done on completing your first two runs!

Welcome to the team! You're going to have a great time and will receive loads of support and motivating comments here.

We'll use the term "Rest Days" but that can be a bit misleading. We mean "rest from impact activities". You can walk on your rest day, or do stretching, or yoga, or swimming, basically any activity that does not stress your body mechanically. When you start running, the muscle fibres in your legs receive tiny tears, and the rest day gives these an opportunity to heal. You must avoid these tears gradually building up into something noticeable.

It's very hot, and so walking in the morning or late evening could be ideal, or a 10-minute stretching session each day could be beneficial.

One thing though - "rest day" does not mean "back on the couch day" :-)

Marky thank you, very informative! I am motivated to keep going so good to know I can still do some exercise in between. I don’t want to remain a couch potato!

Also there's this information link (in the pinned posts there's lots of good stuff to read).

Enjoy the prgramme - just take it slow and steady and in your own time with no pressure and that way you will get so much out of this, it really is brilliant.

How long/far do you walk? I know everyone will be different though

i usually do a 2.5 mile walk on my off days. not real hard just enough to get the heart moving and my stiffness gone
