In fifties and running for first time.....

Taking strength from all the ex-non-runners (!) who post to say they completed the course despite having little faith they would at the beginning. I'm female, 54, bit of a paunch and, up to recently, wanted to shout "Why?" as people jogged/ran past me when I was out my dog walk. Decided the paunch was increasing and getting harder to shift, so started jogging off my own bat - literally was 10 seconds jog, 10 seconds walk - then found the C25K programme. Have completed week two and am concerned about the 3 minute run in week three...... but am getting cheered up by all those who say to keep going! Did I mention the arthritis in my right knee? Only jogging in woods, never pavements..........

it works have faith in the podcasts

I too am 50+ and had never ran and thought I needed a defibrillator after week 1 but I kept going

if tough slow down but keep going

im on week 7 again now and it still amazes me how far I've come already

stay disiplined and keep up the good work

Well Zingy22 you’ve come to the right place. I graduated in December 2016 and have been enjoying running ever since despite having never run as such in my life before (I had a doctor’s note for cross country at school as I got such chronic cramp).

I told my physio I didn’t mind what exercises I did in the gym but NOT running. But her-encouragement to get me to do a few intervals led me to C25k and I haven’t looked back.

I surprised myself in the autumn when I managed to complete 2 10km races and am enjoying just running for fun.

Good luck. Stick with the programme and you’ll be surprised at what you can achieve. 😀

Cooeeee 👋👋👋. Lots of fifty, sixty, seventy something’s here, so you’re in good company. Dog walking will be a boon to your fitness, and complements the programme perfectly. If your dog is youngish you’ll be able to learn to jog together mebbe

There is no doubt that C25K really works.

Have you read the guide to the plan? healthunlocked.com/couchto5... which is full of basic advice for doing C25K.

Enjoy your journey.
